Chunky Apple Cranberry Sauce

At the farmer’s market, I bought a few different kinds of apples planning to make a plain apple sauce as I’ve done before. Instead of regular sauce though, I thought I’d improve on my recipe by adding a few holiday secrets. Read through the ingredients to see what makes this no sugar apple sauce a perfect topping for Thanksgiving morning pancakes, an extraordinary side for your holiday table, or a simple snack anytime.

INSTRUCTIONS

applecranberry

6 medium apples

1 cup apple cider

1 cup dried cranberries

1 teaspoon lemon zest

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

a dash of teaspoon salt

Want to make this gluten-free and dairy-free? No need for any adjustments because this is already a dairy and gluten-free recipe.

Make ahead option? Once the sauce is completely cooled, it can be kept in a sealed container in the refrigerator for about two weeks.

The Simple Steps...

1. Peel, core, and chop apples into one inch chunks.

2. Place all ingredients into a medium saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.

3. Turn down the heat to medium heat and cover the pan.

4. Cook for 10 minutes or until apples are soft.

5. Remove the pan from the heat, and using a potato masher, smash the apples until they are the chunky consistency that you desire.

6. It's time to eat! This sauce is delicious warm on it's own or on pancakes.
